For the personal research project I began research into systems − everything from the solar system to star constellations, grid systems and the golden ratio. After the feedback from the research proposal, I decided to focus on grid systems in graphic design specifically. I looked into the history of layout design and from there, looking into the different style and art movement and their impact on the use of grid systems and structures. After the formative,
I decided to focus on poster design, and the use of grids from different movements. Posters are the medium of visual communication that has been in the centre of many styles and more importantly, the evolution of graphic design.
The most evident grid structure was used in the Swiss Style, and they believed the poster to be the most effective means in terms of communication.

As an outcome I created promotional products for a fictional exhibition “The Grid”, with the posters as the main aspect. This allowed me to experiment and explore the different styles and movements without the restriction of being completely accurate. This project is more about my own take on the different styles.
